Professional Experience

As a member of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and a Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered psychologist within private practice as well as the NHS mental health service, Debbie provides specialist support to people with a variety of presenting difficulties. Difficulties include depression/low mood, stress, low self-esteem, panic attacks, social anxiety, health anxiety, general anxiety and depression. Debbie has extensive experience working with older adults affected by past trauma, relationships, physical health conditions, brain injury, life transitions, grief and loss. Debbie has developed a specialist interest in helping adults who have difficulties with not feeling confident or good enough and in doing so helping to manage the intense emotions that may come with this by overcoming blocks and fears getting in the way of a fulfilling life.

Since qualifying as a chartered counselling psychologist over twenty years ago, Debbie has pursued further advanced training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). As a Counselling Psychologist, Debbie is also trained in other approaches, which gives her a variety of techniques and skills to draw upon to tailor therapy to individual needs. Being actively involved with ACT related research for the treatment of anxiety problems enables Debbie to develop her therapeutic skills further as well as contributing to evidence-based studies. She also currently provides a range of group therapy sessions; support groups, mindfulness – based groups and coping skills. In addition, Debbie provides regular support and supervision to mental health professionals and care teams.

When Debbie is not in her clinic, you can find her gardening and using her produce to make jam. Debbie loves to bake, read, listen to podcasts, walking mindfully in nature and enjoys relaxing with friends and family.
