Which rehab is best for me?

Rehab can be a very daunting prospect for those who are inexperienced with it; some people picture sitting around in groups talking, whilst some might think of a confrontational boot-camp experience where people are “broken down and built back up”. Whilst some places do practise these models, at Addcounsel we believe that that our client-focussed approach is what makes us so unique and effective.

The reasons that people choose to go to treatment are hugely varied. They can range from drug and alcohol addiction, eating disorders, mental health, gambling, and sex. It is important to note that these disorders are not mutually exclusive, and in some instances can be causative. For example, addictions can be related to mental health conditions, and vice versa. This is why when selecting a treatment centre it is critical to choose one which employs experts in each field; this ensures that clients can be diagnosed correctly and given the most effective treatment in order to give them the best odds in their recovery. At Addcounsel, this includes psychiatric assessment, psycho-social testing, genetic testing, and health analysis. A full list of these assessments can be found here.

It is for this reason that it is imperative that the treatment centre offers a wide range of treatments for whatever condition lead the client to seek the help they deserve. At Addcounsel this includes a mix of holistic and cutting-edge cognitive approaches such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, spiritual counselling, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, mindfulness1, and hypnotherapy, which are proven to be effective. We maintain a network of highly-trained professionals in each field; this means that if we assess that a client requires, or asks for, specialist therapy then we can deliver this effectively.

It is this client-focussed approach is what sets Addcounsel apart from many of our competitors. Many treatment centres, especially ones with large numbers of people staying there, can be hard for staff to regulate. Our one-to-one approach means that in times of need our clients always have a highly-skilled professional to hand; London is very equipped in terms of therapeutic capability. London is also a fantastic location to begin recovery with a large community in which one can immerse oneself, with great opportunity for leisure activities which can also help to integrate a client back into everyday life.

Many treatment centres also have a “one-strike” policy, which means that clients can be instantly discharged if they lapse into their addictive behaviour or substance. This can be problematic as for many people recovery is not a linear process; sometimes successful journeys do involve relapsing2. The client-focussed policy at Addcounsel means that we prefer to work with people who may have lapsed rather than to discharge them. Obviously, we never encourage this. The constant presence of our staff is a preventative measure that we take. This approach also makes for a smarter investment than a “one-strike” treatment centre, as often rehab payments are non-refundable.

Some people also find that having other people present throughout their rehab stay to be disruptive to their recovery. Often rehab groups can consist of petty squabbles which can dilute the experience by detracting from the focus on recovery3. Addcounsel’s one-to-one approach means that this is negated and that our clients can have their therapeutic needs met without having to negotiate the often-complex personal relationship structures which can emerge in a group environment.

Families can also be directly and indirectly affected by addiction4, mental health problems, and eating disorders. It is important that when choosing a treatment centre that you choose one which is equipped to provide therapy for the entire family unit. This can also serve to educate families on the nature of these conditions; all-too-often families unfairly bear guilt and shame for their family members. Addcounsel offers a range of our therapeutic support to the families of our clients, which enables them to come to a place of understanding together.

It is also important that a treatment centre can accommodate the needs of all of its clients. Often high-profile clients will require the utmost confidentiality whilst they are receiving help. Addcounsel’s one-to-one model serves to facilitate this; we also cater to large families and entourages in our exclusive central London properties whilst maintaining secrecy and quality of service. We can also maintain our client’s lifestyle expectations with our team of private chefs, nutritionists, house staff, and butlers and can arrange for close protection security to be provided.

Many treatment centres do not offer aftercare; they deliver their package in a set time period, and then it is up to clients to find their own way. At Addcounsel, we understand that the transition back into everyday life include its own unique challenges and that many of our clients require support with this. This is why we deliver a comprehensive aftercare package, in which we offer community support, career preparation, life-skills coaching, and academic tutoring.
