Systemic (Family Therapy)

We understand just how challenging it can be to navigate a system or a unit – such as family or team members – when relationships have become dysfunctional or out of balance. You may feel like no one truly understands one another or that the relationship is not what it used to be. These issues are even more pronounced when family members are involved and can even lead to disorders like anxiety or depression developing.

Luckily, systemic therapy can be used to help repair these relationships as a whole and bring the ‘system’ back into balance. A system is simply a group of people – colleagues, friends, or family – where a ‘family’ dynamic is often apparent. If one part of the system is fragmented or suffering, then it’s likely to affect every person in that group. The goal of systemic therapy is to help repair these fragments and bring the group back together – or at least help people within that group move past challenges or grudges.

Here at Addcounsel, we work with a wide range of expert therapists who specialise in systemic therapy. We also take a holistic approach to treating fractures within groups or families, looking at the situation as a whole and assessing and helping every individual involved.

We are here to help

How Systemic (Family Therapy) Works

Systemic therapy is much like family therapy, the only difference is that it’s designed for a broader group of people rather than just one system. During sessions, a therapist will work with a group to resolve underlying tensions and help everyone move past any problems. It’s a safe and non-judgemental space for everyone in the group to open up and share their point of view with the rest of the room. It may seem daunting to open up, particularly if it’s about a sensitive topic or directed toward a specific person, but a therapist will help guide these interactions to minimise any conflict or disruption.

A systemic group therapist will also delve deep into the communication styles of each and every individual in the group, helping everyone to understand and accept any differences and to pinpoint what may be causing the problem within the group to begin with. It could be something as small as an argument or something more serious like an addiction – the point is, a systemic therapist will help unravel these issues and get to the heart of the problem.

How Systemic (Family Therapy) Can Help You

Systemic therapy can help repair wounds and fractures within relationships and group settings, giving everyone enough clarity and insight to move past problems. Even if relationships don’t go back to exactly the way they were before, systemic therapy will help everyone move on and get rid of any grudges.

Systemic therapy sessions can also improve communication and help everyone develop a greater sense of empathy and sympathy for one another – something which can be applied to situations outside the group. It’s especially beneficial in circumstances when a group has to work together (i.e., for work purposes) and can help aid communication styles and ensure everyone understands each other and appreciates everybody’s differences.

Some other common benefits of systemic therapy include:

  • Improves communication skills
  • Improves collaboration
  • Resolves conflict and gives members of a group tools and resources to resolve conflict in future
  • Develops healthy coping mechanisms
  • Increases patience
  • Increases tolerance

Addcounsel are the only luxury treatment centre in London who offer a network of 80 specialists on a one-to-one basis to their clients. We pride ourselves on focussing on clinical excellence, meaning that we are client focussed but results driven. We understand what it is to work with wealthy clients; we know that it is not always easy and we know how to treat the complex and unique challenges it can entail.
We carry out a thorough diagnosis with our team of expert medical and psychiatric practitioners; this enables us to not only know what the client’s immediate problem is but the underlying factors which may be affecting it. We use this to provide a bespoke holistic treatment program in which every single aspect of the client is looked after, from their physical to their mental health. We are well equipped to match both our clients therapeutic and lifestyle needs, and we provide ongoing care plans with the goal of enabling our clients to have long lasting and consistent recovery.

Our treatment programs are delivered on a case-by-case basis. Humans are all individuals, and at Addcounsel we recognise that. This is why our program is always tailored to the needs of the client as a person, rather than trying to apply a “one-size-fits-all” treatment model. However, some of the therapies our clients can expect to receive are:

  • Psychotherapy
  • EMDR
  • Family Systems Therapy
  • Spiritual counselling
  • Mindfulness
  • RTMS
  • Somantic Experiencing
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy – CBT
  • Positive psychology
  • Hypnotherapy

In short, no. Our staff are very experienced in dealing with high-profile individuals and as such we understand the value of complete privacy. The only way that someone will find out that you attended Addcounsel is if you choose to tell them.

Our treatment programs are bespoke, and as such they do not have to have a set finish date. If you decide that you need to extend your stay with us, then we will extend your stay as long as you want.
If you decide that you need additional help upon leaving treatment, we offer tailored aftercare plans which can be carried out all over the world. This means that at any point you can have a member of our team with you, wherever you decide to go.

Absolutely. At Addcounsel, we pride ourselves on minimal disruption to the lifestyles of our clients. We want them to feel at home and comfortable during their time with us, so your staff can either stay with you or we can accommodate them in one of our exclusive Central London properties. We do provide a chef, but you are of course welcome to bring your own.
Addcounsel is also able to provide house staff, butlers, and private security if our clients require it.
