What is Sex and/or Porn Addiction?

Sex addiction, also known as compulsive sexual behaviour (CSB) ‘is a common disorder featuring repetitive, intrusive and distressing sexual thoughts, urges and behaviours that negatively affect many aspects of an individual’s life.[1]’ Porn addiction is a subset of sex addiction that brings its own unique challenges when attempting to find recovery.

Individuals who suffer with sex and/or porn addiction may find that they are eventually unable to function in their daily life at work, home or maintain a relationship. Sex and porn addiction share certain characteristics with many other addictions, however instead of being addicted to a substance, sufferers are addicted to a behaviour.

Exclusive Sex and Porn Addiction Treatment in Central London

At Addcounsel’s discrete treatment facility in central London, we believe that each client has their own unique, personal needs. This is why we will treat every client on an individual basis and tailor each treatment plan in accordance with our client’s needs.

We believe that sex and porn addiction are a symptom not a diagnosis. It could be a symptom of stress, anxiety or even childhood trauma. Because of this each of our clients will undergo a full psychological and physical assessment which includes a range of diagnostic tests that examine our client’s genetic make-up, their health history, lifestyle and emotional wellbeing. In doing this, we will be able to form a complete understanding of our client’s requirements and be in the best position to support them, not just with sexual relapse prevention strategies, but also in overcoming the issues which have led to the addiction in the first place.
