rTMS

Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) therapy is a novel mental wellness treatment technology that uses gentle magnetic waves to stimulate certain brain areas, leading to pronounced changes in mood and behaviour. It is a painless and non-invasive procedure with few side effects. Approved by the National Institute for Health and Care in 2008 for major depression, research has shown rTMS effectively treats a range of mental health conditions.

Many people living with mental health conditions do not respond to traditional treatment methods – up to half of the people who take antidepressant medications see no improvement in their symptoms. Other people want to avoid medications because of their systemic side effects, or simply want to boost their recovery plan.

For many clients, rTMS can be a life-changing treatment, offering a safe alternative treatment approach with clinically-proven effectiveness.

At Addcounsel, we aim to give every client the best chance of reaching their recovery goals. We offer groundbreaking therapies like rTMS alongside other treatment methods as part of a holistic recovery program. Our one-client-at-a-time approach ensures we fully understand your needs while maintaining confidentiality and privacy throughout your treatment experience.

How rTMS Works

People living with mental health conditions tend to have increased or decreased activity in certain areas of the brain involved in regulating mood and behaviour. These unusual activity levels are associated with low mood, anxiety, addictive behaviour, and other mental health concerns.

rTMS uses repetitive trains of magnetic pulses to stimulate nerve cells, altering activity levels and improving symptoms of mental disorders. During a rTMS session, electricity passes through a magnetic coil placed over the client’s head, inducing a series of magnetic fields that painlessly reach the target area of the brain (usually a region called the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex). These magnetic fields cause tiny electric currents in each cell that affect neuronal activity.

rTMS is a non-invasive procedure, meaning that no surgery is required and the client stays conscious throughout the procedure. Clients can resume normal activity immediately after treatment and drive to and from treatment sessions. rTMS has very few side effects, the most common being mild headaches and scalp discomfort.

A typical course of rTMS involves daily 20-40 minute sessions for four to six weeks, followed by a few weeks of tapering off treatment. It can be offered as part of an outpatient program, fitting into a client’s daily schedule so they can continue their work and home responsibilities throughout the treatment process. rTMS can produce enduring changes that persist long after the end of the treatment course.

How rTMS Can Help You

Living with mental health conditions is tough – especially if you have previously tried treatment without success. Issues like unresolved trauma, depression, anxiety, and addiction can impact all areas of your life and stop you from reaching your full potential.

rTMS is proven to improve symptoms of mental health conditions, improving your overall wellbeing, and supporting you to become your true self. Various clinical trials have shown rTMS to improve symptoms of depression, anxiety, PTSD, and OCD as well as reduce alcohol cravings, alcohol consumption, cocaine cravings, and gambling.

rTMS treatment also avoids the systematic side effects of medication such as weight gain and sexual dysfunction. It offers an innovative alternative if you cannot tolerate or do not wish to experience these side effects.

rTMS treatment can be a lifeline that revolutionises your recovery journey. While it may seem scary to try something new, our expert staff can offer in-depth advice and information and assess whether rTMS is a suitable treatment for you. With our unrivalled experience and expertise, you are in the best hands.

We pride ourselves on focussing on clinical excellence, meaning that we are client focussed but results driven. We understand what it is to work with wealthy clients; we know that it is not always easy and we know how to treat the complex and unique challenges it can entail.
We carry out a thorough diagnosis with our team of expert medical and psychiatric practitioners; this enables us to not only know what the client’s immediate problem is but the underlying factors which may be affecting it. We use this to provide a bespoke holistic treatment program in which every single aspect of the client is looked after, from their physical to their mental health. We are well equipped to match both our clients therapeutic and lifestyle needs, and we provide ongoing care plans with the goal of enabling our clients to have long lasting and consistent recovery.

Our treatment programs are delivered on a case-by-case basis. Humans are all individuals, and at Addcounsel we recognise that. This is why our program is always tailored to the needs of the client as a person, rather than trying to apply a “one-size-fits-all” treatment model. However, some of the therapies our clients can expect to receive are:

  • Psychotherapy
  • EMDR
  • Family Systems Therapy
  • Spiritual counselling
  • Mindfulness
  • RTMS
  • Somantic Experiencing
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy – CBT
  • Positive psychology
  • Hypnotherapy

In short, no. Our staff are very experienced in dealing with high-profile individuals and as such we understand the value of complete privacy. The only way that someone will find out that you attended Addcounsel is if you choose to tell them.

Our treatment programs are bespoke, and as such they do not have to have a set finish date. If you decide that you need to extend your stay with us, then we will extend your stay as long as you want.
If you decide that you need additional help upon leaving treatment, we offer tailored aftercare plans which can be carried out all over the world. This means that at any point you can have a member of our team with you, wherever you decide to go.

Absolutely. At Addcounsel, we pride ourselves on minimal disruption to the lifestyles of our clients. We want them to feel at home and comfortable during their time with us, so your staff can either stay with you or we can accommodate them in one of our exclusive Central London properties. We do provide a chef, but you are of course welcome to bring your own.
Addcounsel is also able to provide house staff, butlers, and private security if our clients require it.
