We know just how difficult it can be to live with anxiety or depression. You might feel like no one understands you or that people tell you to simply ‘snap out of it’. You may find it difficult to approach everyday tasks or find little passion in things you once found enjoyable. Just because your mental health isn’t physical, doesn’t mean it’s not important or as deserving for treatment. When your anxiety and depression are impacting your day-to-day life, it’s best to seek help as soon as possible. One of the most common treatment approaches is cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT).
Cognitive-behavioural therapy, also known as talk therapy, is a form of psychotherapy that helps you better understand your condition and recognise negative thought patterns and behaviours. During sessions, a therapist will work with you to overcome these negative thoughts and behaviours through a variety of tools and resources. Journaling, role-playing, and relaxation techniques such as mindfulness and meditation may also be used to complement your CBT. They will help you develop healthy behaviours and coping mechanisms. While it’s natural to develop your own coping mechanisms when you have depression and anxiety, not all of these can be healthy or helpful to you.
Here at Addcounsel, we take a whole-person approach to treatment. We believe everyone deserves to be seen, heard, and helped, and will do our best to make you feel comfortable and relaxed. Our multi-pronged approach to treatment means that we focus on all parts of your mental, physical, and emotional health on your road to recovery. We don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all method either, so will always endeavour to understand your medical history and unique needs. By doing this, we are able to draw up a personalised treatment plan.

How Cognitive-behavioural Therapy Works
Cognitive-behavioural therapy is all about helping you accept your condition. This therapy strives to help you become more aware of your behaviours and what you can do to overturn negative thoughts. As a completely natural form of treatment, you don’t have to worry about unpleasant side effects – you just have to be willing to open up, look within yourself, and make change. There is no set timeline for cognitive-behavioural therapy either – it all depends on you and how many hours you can put in. Everyone’s mental health is different and everyone’s journey to recovery is unique, so go at a pace that suits you.
During sessions, you can expect to work on your negative thought patterns and develop your sense of introspection. It’s not always easy to look at yourself and make unbiased judgements, but it’s one of the first steps to breaking those unhealthy patterns and behaviours. You may also be encouraged to practice new skills and ways of coping with triggering or stressful situations. This will help prepare you for those moments when you’re faced with the unexpected, so you can respond in the best way possible. In some cases, you’ll also be asked to set goals – smart goals that are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-based.
Cognitive-behavioural therapy is made up of many different moving parts. It’s not just about re-learning healthy patterns of behaviour and overturning the negative, it’s also about setting you up with the tools to effect long-term positive change well into the future.
How Cognitive-behavioural Therapy Can Help You
As a type of talk therapy, CBT can help you re-examine the way you look at the world around you – particularly when stressful or negative events and experiences pop up. It can help teach you to become more resilient and to take each day as it comes. The core lesson of cognitive-behavioural therapy is that though you may not be able to control everything, you can control the way you respond to situations. In the case of depression and anxiety, CBT is a great way of analysing your thoughts and feelings, and building up a bank of tools and resources you can lean into during hard times. These tools and resources can help you make small changes, even if it’s just going for a walk on a bad day or making the effort to try your old hobbies again.
Some of the other common benefits of cognitive-behavioural therapy include:
- Quick results (improvements can be seen in as little as 20 seconds).
- Effective in the treatment of maladaptive behaviours
- Effective online and face-to-face (making it an extremely accessible form of treatment for anxiety and depression)
- Development of healthy coping skills that you can take with you into the future

Addcounsel are the only luxury treatment centre in London who offer a network of 80 specialists on a one-to-one basis to their clients. We pride ourselves on focussing on clinical excellence, meaning that we are client focussed but results driven. We understand what it is to work with wealthy clients; we know that it is not always easy and we know how to treat the complex and unique challenges it can entail.
We carry out a thorough diagnosis with our team of expert medical and psychiatric practitioners; this enables us to not only know what the client’s immediate problem is but the underlying factors which may be affecting it. We use this to provide a bespoke holistic treatment program in which every single aspect of the client is looked after, from their physical to their mental health. We are well equipped to match both our clients therapeutic and lifestyle needs, and we provide ongoing care plans with the goal of enabling our clients to have long lasting and consistent recovery.
Our treatment programs are delivered on a case-by-case basis. Humans are all individuals, and at Addcounsel we recognise that. This is why our program is always tailored to the needs of the client as a person, rather than trying to apply a “one-size-fits-all” treatment model. However, some of the therapies our clients can expect to receive are:
- Family Systems Therapy
- Spiritual counselling
- Somantic Experiencing
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy – CBT
- Positive psychology
In short, no. Our staff are very experienced in dealing with high-profile individuals and as such we understand the value of complete privacy. The only way that someone will find out that you attended Addcounsel is if you choose to tell them.
Our treatment programs are bespoke, and as such they do not have to have a set finish date. If you decide that you need to extend your stay with us, then we will extend your stay as long as you want.
If you decide that you need additional help upon leaving treatment, we offer tailored aftercare plans which can be carried out all over the world. This means that at any point you can have a member of our team with you, wherever you decide to go.
Absolutely. At Addcounsel, we pride ourselves on minimal disruption to the lifestyles of our clients. We want them to feel at home and comfortable during their time with us, so your staff can either stay with you or we can accommodate them in one of our exclusive Central London properties. We do provide a chef, but you are of course welcome to bring your own.
Addcounsel is also able to provide house staff, butlers, and private security if our clients require it.
