Attachment Therapy
We know just how difficult it is to deal with past trauma. You might feel like one childhood memory or experience has stayed with you long into adulthood. You may find it difficult to build relationships with others or have a fear of abandonment. In these cases, looking back at your childhood can be a great way of coming to terms with your past.
Attachment therapy is based on attachment theory and explores your childhood experiences, analysing how your childhood might have impacted your ability to form bonds and relationships. Here at Addcounsel, we work with leading psychologists and therapists to deliver attachment therapy to those suffering from trauma, depression, anxiety, or attachment disorders.
We take a ‘whole-person’ approach to treatment, so will always provide a compassionate level of care that takes your individual needs and experiences into consideration. Treatment plans are fully personalised and we will always take care to be as discreet and private as possible. Treatment shouldn’t place more stress on your shoulders – it should be a journey of healing.
How Attachment Therapy Works
At its core, attachment therapy helps you connect with your child-self and ‘re-parent’ that version with love and acceptance. Once you get in touch with your child-self – particularly the child who was wounded or traumatised – attachment therapy can help you take steps to be more independent and come to the realisation that you don’t need anyone to fulfil your sense of purpose.
During sessions, you’ll work with a therapist to reflect back on your childhood experiences and your relationship with your primary caregiver (parents, family members, or adoptive parents). You’ll be guided through this relationship, slowly processing everything that happened and all the emotions you felt at the time. You may even be encouraged to focus this energy on your current relationships too – friends, family, and romantic partners – to overcome negative behaviours and patterns (ie. fear of abandonment or anxiety in relationships).
Not all attachment therapy sessions will be conducted on a one-to-one basis either. You may be introduced to group therapy or couple-therapy sessions, all aimed at helping you form better bonds and relationships with others.
How Attachment Therapy Can Help You
Attachment therapy can help resolve some of those niggling issues your subconscious deals with. Feelings of insecurity, lack of self-esteem, and confidence. Feelings that stem from a fear of abandonment or lack of self-worth. Feelings that are rooted in your childhood experiences. By working with a therapist and coming face-to-face with your child self, you’ll gain a sense of security and be better able to practice self-love.
Therapy sessions can also help you gain some ‘control’ over your past. There might have been experiences where you felt like you were watching from the outside, unable to do anything. Attachment therapy can delve into these wounds and situations, encouraging you to interact with your trauma and tell your story in a way that doesn’t bring you sadness or negativity.
Attachment therapy can be especially useful if you suffer from an attachment disorder, as it can help build relationships with others, ease feelings of anxiety or fear of abandonment, and help you build a life that doesn’t centre around other people or rely on others to bring you happiness.

Addcounsel are the only luxury treatment centre in London who offer a network of 80 specialists on a one-to-one basis to their clients. We pride ourselves on focussing on clinical excellence, meaning that we are client focussed but results driven. We understand what it is to work with wealthy clients; we know that it is not always easy and we know how to treat the complex and unique challenges it can entail.
We carry out a thorough diagnosis with our team of expert medical and psychiatric practitioners; this enables us to not only know what the client’s immediate problem is but the underlying factors which may be affecting it. We use this to provide a bespoke holistic treatment program in which every single aspect of the client is looked after, from their physical to their mental health. We are well equipped to match both our clients therapeutic and lifestyle needs, and we provide ongoing care plans with the goal of enabling our clients to have long lasting and consistent recovery.
Our treatment programs are delivered on a case-by-case basis. Humans are all individuals, and at Addcounsel we recognise that. This is why our program is always tailored to the needs of the client as a person, rather than trying to apply a “one-size-fits-all” treatment model. However, some of the therapies our clients can expect to receive are:
- Psychotherapy
- EMDR
- Family Systems Therapy
- Spiritual counselling
- Mindfulness
- RTMS
- Somantic Experiencing
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy – CBT
- Positive psychology
- Hypnotherapy
In short, no. Our staff are very experienced in dealing with high-profile individuals and as such we understand the value of complete privacy. The only way that someone will find out that you attended Addcounsel is if you choose to tell them.
Our treatment programs are bespoke, and as such they do not have to have a set finish date. If you decide that you need to extend your stay with us, then we will extend your stay as long as you want.
If you decide that you need additional help upon leaving treatment, we offer tailored aftercare plans which can be carried out all over the world. This means that at any point you can have a member of our team with you, wherever you decide to go.
Absolutely. At Addcounsel, we pride ourselves on minimal disruption to the lifestyles of our clients. We want them to feel at home and comfortable during their time with us, so your staff can either stay with you or we can accommodate them in one of our exclusive Central London properties. We do provide a chef, but you are of course welcome to bring your own.
Addcounsel is also able to provide house staff, butlers, and private security if our clients require it.
